CIEE Scholarships and Grants
CIEE'southward need-based grants offer support to students who face financial barriers to studying abroad. CIEE awards need-based grants based on students' EFCs and program selection. The Gilman Go Global Grant offers students $750-$2,000 toward airfare, plus $2,500 toward semester program costs, or $ane,000 toward summer program costs.

Words can't depict how crawly this program was. During my adventure I learned how to say how-do-you-do, thanks and goodbye in v languages. I saw so many cool historical and natural sites that I got tired of them. I got to really close with my host family, experienced real Spanish traditions, and we nonetheless stay in contact. I spent time volunteering at a middle schoolhouse and improved my Castilian from beginner to intermediate. I had classes with all kinds of international kids who had experiences all over the world. I learned and reflected about how civilisation affects the way nosotros learn and wait at the earth. Best of all, I overcame a lot of my personal fears and gained a new level of confidence and intercultural competence that has inverse my life.
What is your communication to future travelers on this program?
Go all in. Like a skateboarder dropping into a bowl, commit yourself fully to the experience. In the terminate, the feel is what you make of it, and so if y'all are open, willing to lean, set some goals, and reflect on the experience you are going to love your time abroad.
Before kickoff my virtual internship through CIEE, I was a little apprehensive. I had no feel working in the field, I'd never worked online before, and I didn't speak the language of the land where the company was based. Although nerve-wracking at outset, I'yard so happy I took the plunge. I've learned so many new skills, worked with people from all over the world, and gotten a look into what sustainability jobs might entail. Every 24-hour interval has been dissimilar, so I've had a taste of many different roles. If I could, I would 100% do it again!
What is your communication to future travelers on this plan?
Don't be agape to take a risk or to ask questions when you lot're unsure of something. More often than not, your internship provider will be happy to answer them and it shows your dedication to the organization.
I picked this because I'1000 a comm major w/interest in journalism, and considering of the urban setting and CIEE's varied extracurricular activities.
Staff and faculty are smart, caring people. Any help I needed could be found on the top floor of report center. They are open about safety, resources, etc. and they agree students to a high standard of using mutual sense. The response to COVID was calm, informed, and measured.
Students cared about their Castilian skills and immersion. The day trips are slap-up, but the more frequent tours and activities throughout the week are awesome ways to meet more faculty, a super easy way to get to know the city and the social calendar too every bit other students from CIEE's many programs. Nigh one-half of my classes were adequately easy, the other half were more serious/high level piece of work. All the classes had less reading required than at my home university. Magazine class focused on storytelling and Profe Oscar Ceballos cares passionately about the craft. My Cursos Concertados flamenco grade was fantastic. The classes available to you are in the written report center for the CNMJ, Nervion for business, Triana for a few more, similar my trip the light fantastic form. The classes do not necessarily help yous go out into the community in an interactive and deep way, that is more up to you to figure out how to build connections with vendors or citizens when you lot visit the market or the women's march with class. I expected it to push me more/harder to practice that. Regardless, the opportunities are at that place!
Homestays are great, and for the CNMJ program their location is in La Alameda or La Macarena, home to a lively artist customs and close to the river and Calle Feria, and closer to the study center than the other neighborhoods, then it is arguably the best homestay neighborhood CIEE has in Seville.
I loved walking everywhere, smelling the orangish blossoms, and riding a bicycle, too every bit weekend independent travel. I had a petty problem connecting with my homestay (simply 8 weeks though cuz COVID) but we got along well. I was with some other student and she interacted very picayune with me. CIEE'southward weekly activities and their first month-ish social helped add variety and come across new people.
What is your advice to futurity travelers on this programme?
Add variety to your schedule: join a gild; sign upward for excursions - the ones that are only a few hours are easy, comfortable, and testify you lot great places to hang out in the city, and are costless/included in tuition; have a class outside your focus (I took "History of Flamenco through Trip the light fantastic" and "Business Ethics," both classes for international students. almost, but not all, of students in these courses were from the USA and in Seville with CIEE). Expect for a language exchange at a local restaurant or bar. CIEE'south has more often than not English speakers, and if you join a non-CIEE ane you volition meet people who take found things in the city you don't know near. CIEE's plan is a great jumping off bespeak, but not the end goal.
Another piece of advice for anyone abroad, in any program, is: Trust that you will notice your place socially and that you are worthy of inclusion and appreciation. Studying abroad with CIEE Rio has been by far the best decision I take ever made. Nothing can compare to the delicious Brazilian food my wonderful host mother Jussara would cook for me everyday. The moment I stepped into the Brazilian soil I knew my life was going to change forever. The teachers were incredible and super attentive, information technology really helped that the program consisted of just x people because we were all able to get really close with the teachers and staff. I never felt in danger and I ever knew that if past any chance I needed help I knew I could count on the wonderful staff. I am extremely thankful to have gotten this opportunity and if there ever comes a time where you have the opportunity to cull between Rio and literally anywhere else e'er choose Rio, you lot will non regret it.
What was the most unfamiliar matter y'all ate?
Tapioca!! non the pudding kind it was more like a crepe/tortilla there is no way I can properly draw it but information technology was the most succulent and healthy snack always!!
I truly enjoyed the online global experience, although I was actually looking forward to the actual event. I appreciate the experience afforded to me by the Frederick Douglass Summer Scholar program through CIEE. Although online, the opportunity to interact with other scholars from various locations, every bit well as the professor was near enjoyable. I also enjoyed the weekly driblet in sessions and other activities made available. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the opportunity. Try it!
