The College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Lectureship is one of the highest honors bestowed upon a faculty member past the Higher, and may be awarded simply once to whatever particular person.  Recipients are accorded this accolade in recognition of the excellence of their professional attainments, exemplifying the values and mission of Illinois State Academy and the College of Arts and Sciences; in particular, they demonstrate the active pursuit of learning, creative activity, scholarship, and enquiry, also equally their broadcasting through publication and teaching. Each yr, the College Council selects upward to two faculty members as recipients of this honor.

Award Criteria

  • The recipient shall take attained full professorial rank.
  • The recipient shall have an outstanding national or international reputation in one or more of the categories of inquiry, scholarship, creative activeness, and didactics. This reputation will be evidenced past a record of peer-reviewed recognition of the individual'due south professional accomplishments. In the case of teaching, at that place will as well be evidence of educatee recognition.
  • The recipient shall take made substantial contributions to the mission of Illinois State University, the College of Arts and Sciences, and/or the private's section.

Selection Procedures

  • Each Spring semester, any department or whatever faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences may nominate one faculty fellow member of the College for the honour. The nominee should non be a previous recipient of the honor.
  • The nominating department or individual shall submit the following documentation to the College Council no later than the concluding Friday of March:
    1. a letter of nomination,
    2.  a career curriculum vitae from the nominee,
    3. a statement of not more than than two pages from the nominee addressing the significance of his/her professional piece of work in relation to the nomination.
  • The Higher Quango shall empanel a nomination review committee, consisting of three faculty members of the Council (one from each of the three disciplinary groups), one student member of the Council, and two faculty members non on the Quango who are past Arts and Sciences Distinguished Lecturers who will be appointed past the Dean of the College.
  • The nomination review committee shall evaluate the documentation submitted for each nomination. Its deliberations shall include consideration of the following questions:
    1. Has the nominee attained full professorial rank?
    2. Does the submitted documentation for the nominee evidence a substantial record of peer-reviewed accomplishments such every bit publications, presentations, grants, and awards?
    3. Does the nominee have an outstanding national or international reputation in 1 or more of the categories of research, scholarship, creative activity, and pedagogy?  In which of these categories do the nominee's particular strengths lie?

Distinguished Lecturer Archive

Purpose

The Outstanding College Researcher Honor recognizes individuals who have conducted enquiry at an outstanding level amidst their peers. Three Outstanding College Researcher Awards will be awarded each twelvemonth within the College of Arts and Sciences: one in Division A, Sciences and Mathematics; i in Sectionalization B, Social Sciences; and ane in Sectionalisation C, Humanities.

Criteria for Eligibility

  • Nominees must be tenured or tenure-track kinesthesia members currently conducting research. They must have been at ISU for a minimum of three academic years prior to nomination.
  • Nominees may not take previously won an Outstanding College Researcher Award in CAS.
  • Because of the loftier quality of inquiry in CAS and the competitive nature of the Outstanding College Researcher Awards, nominees who do not win the Award in one year are encouraged to reapply in a future year.
  • Individuals cannot be nominated for any combination of Outstanding College Researcher, Outstanding University Researcher, or Research Initiative Award simultaneously.

Procedure for Submission of Nominations

  • Eligible faculty members may be nominated by any faculty member or department chair in the College. The Inquiry Proposal Review Committee (RPRC) volition not be charged with nominating eligible faculty members for the Outstanding College Researcher Honor.
  • Nominees must seek written endorsement of their application from their chairperson or a colleague in their section or schoolhouse. The endorsement should address the quality and uniqueness of the contribution of the nominee's research to his or her discipline, including the extent to which the nominee is recognized nationally or internationally for research.

Review

  • Entries will be reviewed by the RPRC. The RPRC volition rank all entries within each division, A, B, and C. The final rank order and a recommendation for awards in each division will exist submitted to the Dean.
  • A document entitled "Criteria for the Evaluation of Scholarly and Creative Productivity" will provide guidance for such review. This certificate can be found on the Research and Sponsored Programs website.

Five hundred dollars are provided to each College to recognize outstanding researchers. The number of recipients, the option process, and the criteria for these awards are at the discretion of the College. However, the criteria should parallel those of the Outstanding University Researcher Honor plan for College recipients to exist competitive at the Academy level.

Funds provided by the University for this accolade may exist combined with research award programs already existing in the Colleges, but individuals selected must be designated by the championship Outstanding College Researcher. Although funds are intended to be used primarily for equipment, it is permissible for Colleges to exchange funds from other budget accounts and so that laurels recipients may obtain the research-related items they need about, but non for faculty bacon.

Colleges should send the names of award recipients to the Acquaintance Vice President for Inquiry before the deadline for Outstanding University Researcher applications; otherwise, College recipients will be ineligible for Outstanding University Researcher awards that year.

A complete application should include:

  • Cover sheet (fastened to this data)
  • A statement from the nominee describing his or her current enquiry (no more than 1 to one½ pages, single spaced). The argument should be written at a level appropriate for researchers outside the discipline. In improver to a description of current activities, the argument should accost the significance of the nominee'southward full body of research to the field of study.
  • Endorsement of the application by the nominees' department chairperson or a colleague in the department.
  • A full career vita. Research accomplishments that are in compliance with the "Criteria for the Evaluation of Scholarly and Creative Productivity" should be categorized and listed, first with the most recent. Consummate citations must be given for all published works. "Criteria for the Evaluation of Scholarly and Creative Productivity" can exist found on the Inquiry and Sponsored Programs website.
  • External letter(s) of back up (no more than 3). External letters of support provide reviewers with helpful insights about the contribution of the research accomplishments to the bailiwick and social club.

Purpose

The Scott M. Elliott Cross-Disciplinary Pilot Grant Program is a multi-twelvemonth endeavor funded by a generous contribution from Scott Thousand. Elliott, 1985 alum of the Department of Economic science. The objective of the airplane pilot grant program is to foster greater collaboration between faculty in the Department of Economics and the residuum of the University in the enhancement of external grant funding. Specifically, the pilot grant program will provide interdisciplinary research teams with initial funds to conduct preliminary research with the objective of a grant submission for external funding from government agencies and/or foundations in the corporeality of at least $100,000.

Proposals must be received from teams of at least two faculty members. Members from all Colleges are welcome to submit proposals with the stipulation that at least one faculty member from the Department of Economic science is an active member of the inquiry team. All faculty, regardless of employment condition (tenured, tenure-track, or NTT), are invited to participate in the plan. Possible research areas are cultural economics, health economics, economics of applied science and innovation, economics of education, agricultural economic science, etc.

The distribution of indirect funds generated from a successful external grant submission as a result of this airplane pilot grant program volition be negotiated between the Chair of the Department of Economic science and members of the research team.

Award Funds

The pilot grant program funds are intended to provide the most flexibility to the respective inquiry teams to maximize the potential for successful completion of the preliminary research and grant submission. Funds from the pilot grant program can exist allocated towards equipment, supplies, software, databases, travel support, course buyout, and/or stipends every bit outlined past the research team in their proposal and upkeep request. The maximum amount of the pilot grant award is $fifteen,000 per research squad.

No more than 3 airplane pilot grant awards will exist distributed per yr.   5. Curriculum Vitae of each PI and Co-PI
  6. List of targeted government agencies and foundations for submission of the external grant proposal, including proposal due dates

Applications are due to the CAS Office by the last Friday in March.

Review Criteria and Process

The Review Committee will include the Chair of the Department of Economics (non-voting), the CAS Acquaintance Dean for Research, Engineering, & Facilities, one Economics faculty member (appointed by the Economics chair), and three by recipients of an Elliott Cross-Disciplinary Grant (across disciplines). Proposal evaluation will be based on the quality of the proposal, the grant experience of the research team members, the dollar amount of the grant request, the degree of faculty involvement from the Department of Economics, and an cess of the likelihood of successful external funding. Preference will exist given to proposals from kinesthesia members who have not notwithstanding received an Elliott Cross-Disciplinary Grant.

Obligations

Research teams must submit a formal external grant submission based on the pilot grant project no afterwards than one year after receipt of the initial pilot grant proposal funding through the University'due south Research and Sponsored Programs with copies of the submitted grant proposal sent to the Department of Economics and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Each higher will be appropriated $500 in operating funds to recognize kinesthesia with outstanding records of service. Colleges are encouraged to establish criteria similar to the University service awards to ensure college recipients will be competitive for futurity University service awards.

The Outstanding College Service Laurels exists to accolade and recognize full-fourth dimension, tenure or tenure-line faculty who have demonstrated excellence in service to Illinois Land University at any level (the Library, the University, and Local, Land, National or International Professional Organizations). By honoring such individuals, the University demonstrates its delivery to service as an activeness essential to its mission and to its governance, provides incentive for faculty members to pursue activities that heighten the quality of their service, and emphasizes the importance of outstanding service.

Application Guidelines:

Each candidate must define the scope and quality of their service by preparing and submitting the following materials– in electronic format.

  1. Cover canvass
  2. A curriculum vita
  3. A 2-three page statement of service philosophy that addresses the relation of teaching, research and service and summarizes service by setting (university, higher, department/school, profession and community) and year.  No need for supporting documents such as pamphlets and brochures.
  4. A alphabetic character of nomination from the department/school chair/director which includes an evaluation of the candidate'due south cumulative service contribution to the department/schoolhouse, college, and university.

Purpose and Description of the Awards

The College of Arts and Sciences seeks to recognize the very best teachers in the College who display exceptional classroom teaching, develop innovative instructional materials and approaches to instruction, involve students in pregnant learning and/or research activities, and advise and/or counsel students.

Each year 3 kinesthesia members, one from the sciences, one from the humanities, and ane from the social sciences, may receive the Outstanding Instructor Award in the Higher of Arts and Sciences. An individual may not receive both the Outstanding Teaching Honor and the University Teaching Initiative Honour in the same bookish year.

Award recipients will be recognized at the College Almanac Awards Reception, receive a plaque, a $500 award, and their names will appear on a plaque in the College office.

Eligibility

All total and part-time faculty members in the Higher of Arts and Sciences are eligible for these awards. No one may receive the honor more one time.

Procedures

  1. Any kinesthesia member, total- or function-fourth dimension student, former student, department chair, or DFSC may nominate an instructor for an award.
  2. Letter of nomination:
    1. Letters of nomination must be typewritten
    2. Letters of nomination must exist sent directly to the department chair of the nominee, addressed to the attention of the chair
    3. Letters of nomination must contain the following:
      1. the name of the nominee;
      2. the academic department of the nominee;
      3. a narrative that explains why the nominee should exist considered for this award;
      4. the proper name of the nominator and whether this person is a educatee or a faculty fellow member; and
      5. the date of the letter of the alphabet of nomination was submitted.
    4. Letters of nomination are to exist sent to the Chair of the nominee's department by the first Tuesday of September.
  3. The departmental DFSC and/or chair volition notify the nominee that a nomination has been fabricated. In the event that several individuals are nominated from 1 department, the DFSC for that department will select no more than one candidate to forward for the awards.
  4. Nominees who wish to be considered for this accolade should assist their DFSC (or chairperson) in compiling and sending materials to the College Teaching Award Choice Committee. The agenda for submission of nominations will coincide with the calendar for submission of materials for the University-level teaching awards. Supporting materials are due to the College Teaching Honor Choice Commission at cas@ilstu.edu,by the Second Friday of September. Kenneth A. (Buzz) and Mary Ann Shaw have established an endowed fund to back up an laurels for teaching excellence in the College of Arts and Sciences. Each year, two awards of at least $iii,500 will be made to back up the continued development of the recipients' outstanding education. The award is "to be used for professional person development which will exist spent by the recipients to straight further their efforts to raise their teaching skills or used for costs of materials, travel, equipment, and the like."

The letter of gift lays out the selection criteria and procedure

"Candidates will exist nominated annually by their departments, with ane nomination accepted from a section. The nomination will be considered by the Higher Instruction Awards Committee, which will recommend two candidates to the Dean. The awards given will be based on a candidate's tape of instruction excellence and stated plans for how he or she plans to employ the fellowship."

"The awardees will be asked to share their experiences with faculty colleagues and then that others will do good from their efforts. It is hoped that over the years recipients volition get a collective grouping engaged in the improvement of instruction thus having an impact beyond their ain individual achievements."

Timeline
